Maria Houlaki is a photographer and an art teacher.

She was born in Heraklion, Crete, where she lives and works.

 

In 1982 she completed her studies in photography, videoart and audiovisual communication at the Fine Arts School in France

In 1983 she worked in Italy.

In 1984 she was trained in the French Television next to J. C. Averty with a scholarship of the French Government.

From 1989 to 1991 she lived and taught in Cyprus.

From 1994 to 1997 she specialised in the teaching of art, at the Contemporary Art Museum of Bordeaux and the Pompidou Centre in Paris.

From 1995 to 1998 she taught at the Pedagogical Department of the University of Crete.

From 1996 to 2002 she worked at the Visual Network Laboratories of the Ministry of Culture as chief of the Education Sector, in the Museum for Contemporary Art of Rethymno.

 

Alongside her artistic activity, Maria Houlaki actively participates in volunteer activities in collaboration with Social institutions, Schools and Museums. She has planned, coordinated and implemented innovative projects, exhibitions and publications while works of hers are in private collections and museums. She is a member of the International Association of Museums (ICOM).
